Results of Swallow Enhancement Program 2016

Fourty nest boxes were placed in the estuary along the nature trail. Of the 40 boxes:

Ø  24 boxes with complete nests, several observed raising two clutches; 2 boxes occupied by Violet green Swallows, all others by Tree Swallows;

Ø  4 partial nests; 2 boxes with un-finished purple martin nests (direct observations);

Ø  12 boxes empty.

Of the 16 additional boxes CERCA donated to the Vancouver Island Conservation Land Management Program for the estuary properties managed by this organization:

      Ø  9 boxes with complete nests (all Tree Swallows);

      Ø  3 partial nests;

      Ø  4 boxes empty.

 Based on the positive results this Program will continue in 2017. Thanks again to all who participated also in the clean-up of the boxes.
