Media Coverage of CERCA's Initiative against Dredging in the Estaury

We have been pleased with the media coverage the demonstration against the dredging in the Cowichan Estuary received. The turn-out of over 30 persons on a short notice reflects the grave concern of Cowichan Bay residents and environmental groups about side effects and adverse impacts on the estuary's ecological integrity as a result of dredging at the current scale. The demonstration in front of WFP's entry gate received on-site news coverage  by Chek TV, CTV, The Newsleder, The Citizen and several radio stations. On Friday we had a live interview on this issue with CBC. In a follow-up CERCA has submitted letters to the MoE, MOFLNR and the DFO requesting clarification on the dredging approval decision and suggesting changes to the approval process of proposals affecting the ecology of the estuary. The approval process should be transparent and corresponding documents be accessible to the public. We invite you to visit our facebook and photo gallery. You also find us on twitter.
