Estuary Mobile Exhibition on the move again!

Raving Reviews of the Estuary Art show/and exhibition

The fine art show "Estuary, the Cradle of Life", jointly organized and implemented by the "Friends of the Cowichan Valley Public Art Gallery" and CERCA, has been very successful. The Arbutus Gallery and Mesachie room of the Community Center proved to be a perfect venue for the show. The sculptures and paintings of the 20 contributing artists and CERCA's mobile estuary exhibition developed in cooperation with the BC Royal Museum in 2012, were highly complementary to each other. The show drew more than 1000 visitors, one of the highest number ever experienced at any art show at this venue in Duncan. It was on display throughout March.

CERCA's significant financial and other contributions (i.e. mobile estuary exhibition, estuary theme plates, estuary banner etc.) greatly enhanced the quality of the show. Judging by the feedback received, CERCA's participation played a significant role for its overall success. Raising public awareness of the ecological uniqueness of the estuary as one of the most important and most threatened ecosystem, paid off.

The greatest compliment and reward for CERCA resulting from the show is a request by Brentwood College for hosting CERCA's mobile exhibition at their premises in Mill Bay, to be on display at their famous annual three day regatta event in late April. It will be used afterwards as educational tool during the entire school year. The Brentwood regatta attracts thousands of visitors every year, providing an excellent opportunity for drawing attention to the Cowichan Estuary by displaying it at a very prominent location at the entrance of the main building.

We have received already another request by Shawnigan Lake School to borrow the show to be used as teaching tool at this facility. And we are currently discussing the possibility of a permanent transfer of the mobile exhibition to the Cowichan Valley School District. No doubt about the exhibition finally serving its purpose after three years being dormant!
